Truly this is due to the fact that… Continue

Help Friends of the Guardian ad Litem Program Fill Backpacks for Children in Need

The Friends of the Guardian ad Litem Program is providing backpacks filled with school supplies for children in need. The goal of this project is to set each child up for success and have them feel a sense of pride on their first day of school. The classroom environment is a haven for most children that live in poverty and have limited, if any, resources to support their educational needs. The backpacks should be solid colors without advertising or any kind of endorsement on them. The contents… Continue

Rest in Peace, Michael

Many in our generation grew up listening to Michael Jackson albums blaring through our 1980s boom boxes. He was truly one of the most talented musicians our world has ever known. He will be missed. Through all of the controversy and Paparazzi-fueled propaganda, I believe his lyrics to

"Man in the Mirror" reveal who he truly was. Rest in…

"Knowledge Workers" Can't Replace Vocational Workers

This column by TRACKS regular Tom Poland is from his "Across The Savannah" series, which he writes for his hometown newspaper in Lincolnton, Ga. In this column, Tom focuses on those who work with their hands--and he isn't talking about typing on a keyboard. This column is important because many North Carolina educators and residents in the Triangle and beyond recognize a need for a dedicated public vocational school in this region. While most… Continue

Triangle TRACKer - Says, Take A (family) Hike!

Why not embrace what a sluggish economy has to offer: A chance to adjust our vantage point; An opportunity to get off on the right foot.

Here's my idea: Do it literally, by hiking along North Carolina's amazing Blue Ridge Parkway.

The idea may sound daunting, but when taken step by step, doesn't have to be.

Wikipedia, in it's infinite wisdom, describes "Hiking" as "an outdoor… Continue
